All prospective players must pre-register for try-outs – no walk-ons will be permitted. Click Here to Register

MUSC will form teams in the U-9 to U-14 age groups.  For information on our U8 & U9 Academy program and tryouts click here

Placement:
Please remember as you move forward that placement on a travel team is a selective process.  Not all applicants will be accepted into the program, or offered a spot on the team of their choice.  As parents and guardians, it is important that you evaluate your child's ability to deal with this process before the try out process begins.

Notifications:
Placements will be attempted to be made by June 1, 2009.  Due  to the number of players trying out, notification of decisions will be made via email.

Playing Up:
MUSC generally discourages athletes playing on teams older than age groups dictated by their date of birth (please see above).  Exceptions to this policy may be made depending on the following:
  • The player has been playing on older teams;
  • The athlete has the skill, size and maturity to do so and/or;
  • To support the formation of that team.

If a player wants to try-out to play up, they must receive the Travel Committee’s approval prior to try-outs.  We strongly encourage the player to take part in the age-appropriate try our even if the Travel Committee approves the playing up try-out.  Many factors, most importantly the safety of the children and make up of teams are taken into account and the Travel Committee’s decisions are final.

Roster Size:
Small-Sided teams (U10 and under) typically will have rosters of no more than 12 players.  Large-Sided teams typically will have roster sizes of no more than 16 players.  Exceptions may be made depending on the pool of players and team formation concerns.

Training:
All teams are professionally trained and in most cases, coached   MUSC operates under the guidelines of New Jersey Youth Soccer, which is a member of the United States Soccer Federation, Inc. As such, our travel teams play two 10-game seasons, Fall and Spring. Travel soccer teams normally practice two times a week, and play games or participate in festivals or tournaments on the weekend including some holidays. U9 - U14 teams playing in Northern Counties have boys normally playing on Saturdays in the Fall and girls playing on Sunday. In the spring, both boys and girls normally play on Sundays. U11-U14 games in most of the other leagues play both boys and girls games on Sunday. Weather and fields availability always plays a factor, so make-up games get scheduled as they can. Depending on the skill level and age of the team, considerable travel time to and from games may be required on the weekend.  Some of our more competitive teams may practice more often, engage in winter training and travel further and more often to tournaments.

Cost:
Participation on MUSC on average costs approximately $800 per player depending on the roster size.  Other factors such as winter training, the number of tournaments, extra training and travel costs may increase this amount.  These additional costs may significantly increase the annual cost for our more competitive teams.  Prior to placement on a team, the anticipated costs and time commitment will be communicated to prospective players.

Soccerships:
MUSC offers financial assistance to Montclair Residents on a needs basis.  This is a real cost to the club and not an accounting offset, so we ask that all families carefully consider applying for aid.  The amount of Soccerships is subject to approval by the MUSC Board and limited to the lesser of 50% of the team’s base budget and $500.  Should a player’s family have a financial hardship they should contact the MUSC Co-Presidents to request appropriate consideration.  ALL APLICATIONS MUST BE MADE PRIOR TO ACCEPTING A PLACE ON A TEAM.  Decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis.  All requests and grants will be kept strictly confidential by MUSC.

Acceptance on Teams/Payments:
A $200 deposit will be required upon accepting placement on a team. If the $200 deposit presents an economic hardship to any particular family, MUSC, as always, is willing to work with that family to secure soccership funding and/or to work out an appropriate payment plan. If such a hardship exists, please contact the team manager or any member of the MUSC travel committee before the deposit due date.

All Teams are dissolved at the end of the spring season.
