Parent Support
WASA In-House Division (U5-U8)
In-house does not allow a child to play down unless they have a physical disability. OYSAN no longer allows children to play down unless they have a diagnosed physical disability and a note from an executive board member stating the condition and requesting the child to play down a division (being "small" in stature is not a disability.)
Once any approved "play down" players reach the Rec Division (U9) they will be forced to play in their appropriate age bracket (this is per GAASA/OYSAN rules/regulations)
In-house does not allow "playing up" unless the parent requests it and it's "grade appropriate". For example, the child is in 2nd grade but his/her birth date calls for U7 which is comprised mostly of 1st grade players. Regardless, the parent MUST request this change – the In-house Director will not automatically make the adjustment without the parents request and consent.
WASA Recreation Division (U9 & Up)
In General, Rec does not allow "playing up" unless the parent requests it and it's "grade appropriate". For example, the child is in 3rd grade but his/her birth date calls for U8 which is comprised mostly of 2nd grade players. Regardless, the parent MUST request this change – the Rec Director will not automatically make the adjustment without the parents request and consent.
A player
may also play up if requested by the Rec Director to fill a void on a team.
For example, a U14 team may only have “X” players registered and requires “Y” players to officially register in GAASA. This process will be initiated by the Rec Director and only when the situation exists.
A team
may also play up but must adhere to the following guidelines:
A try-out will be held every fall for the U8 division and by an assessment process a team will be created and declared in the U9 division for the following spring season.
This team must consist of players only from the U8 division and can not be filled by any other player from U7, U9, etc.
This team will complete the first spring season in U9/C2 and move to the appropriate division the following fall season (pending team’s standing and GAASA/WASA recommendation).
This team will stay together (age appropriate) and compete in a division above their age bracket as long as they can field an appropriate number of age appropriate players to continue playing up.
This team may not use players from the appropriate age bracket to fill roster vacancies, unless to accommodate a coach with two (2) or more children (same gender) in the WASA program.
