How does the Cougar Soccer program differ from in-town recreation and other travel soccer programs in the area?

The in-town recreation programs offered by the townships are very good programs and the Cougar Soccer Club works closely with these programs in developing the overall soccer platform and offerings.  The Cougar Soccer Club offers additional professional training that is geared towards players who would like to make a greater commitment to develop their skills to a higher level.  Over a full season, teams within both programs offer the same amount of games, but Cougar SC trains twice per week and the recreation programs generally train once per week.

Is the Cougar Soccer club only about tough competition?

NO, not at all--The club’s mission is “To create an environment where each player can achieve their full soccer potential and to encourage the growth of the individual & community.”  Members of the club participate in community service projects and develop social skills as members of a team and a program highly regarded throughout the state.

Does the Cougar Soccer club offer any social activities for its members?

Yes. The club is active in many community initiatives and is a strong proponent of family values. There are a number of social activities that bring the players and families together. Ironmen games at the Pru Center, parties, Red Bull games at Giant Stadium & tailgates, Soccer-a-thons and player / coach clinics are just a few of the activities offered.  Also, all Cougar SC teams are entered (without fee) into the Memorial Day Tournament which is a club sponsored event played in Maplewood and So. Orange.  Our team leaders are responsible for providing an environment for the entire family so that everyone can benefit from the time spent on the fields of play.

Which league is the Cougar Soccer Club associated with?

The Boys Club is a charter member of the Northern Counties Soccer Association.  The NCSA offers a well-rounded program that best suits the Cougar Soccer Club’s Boys requirements. Travel to away games is easily accessed from the major state thruways. Average time required to travel to away games is 30-45 minutes.

My child has not experienced a tryout process yet.  I am concerned that he/she might be too young to handle not making the team.

Children should not be concerned, but more importantly, parents should not worry!!   The club attempts to accommodate all players that tryout. The board dedicates a tremendous amount of time and effort to ensure all players have a place to play soccer. There are rare instances where there are not enough players to form a team. In these cases, the club works closely with the Recreation program to find a home for the players.  The Cougar SC does not deny children the opportunity to play provided we have spots on teams to play.

My child has participated in other programs and I am not confident he will enjoy the experience not playing with his friends

The Cougar SC works extremely hard with our professional training organization, Ashley Soccer & UK Elite to make the training and playing experience both fun & active, encouraging teamwork, friendship and respect on the field.  While the children attend school at various locations throughout the community, the friendships that are fostered on the field translate into familiar faces in the hallways as the children progress from K & 1st, Elementary & Middle Schools.
