Please Consider Being a Travel Team Coach!

Yes, the Barrens Travel Club will be holding tryouts but teams DO NOT magically appear. If a team doesn't already exist, a parent (or a couple of parents) need to volunteer to coach the new team.

If an existing team has a sufficient number of players we can combine age groups or add another team in the same age group. But again, parents need to volunteer to help coach or manage the team.

At the earlier age groups the most important thing is to get the players organized and playing.  We can help you teach the game.

Age groups are based on the players birth date as of July31st.  For example: if a player turns 11 on August 15th he or she is 10 on July 31st and therefore is eligible to play on an Under-11 or U11 team.

Read the information on this page and email Al (link below) if you are interested.

The Barrens Travel Soccer Club is comprised of soccer teams that play in a competitive York County league, York USA.  Teams play other travel teams in neighboring communities such as Red Lion, Dallastown, Spring Grove, Mason-Dixon and others.  Teams also travel to play in soccer tournaments in places like Gettysburg, Hempfield or Dillsburg, and may play in competitive indoor leagues.  Travel teams typically play in a fall and spring outdoor season.

If you plan to tryout for Barrens Travel Soccer Club, do not register for Barrens Soccer Club until you have been notified that you did not make a travel team. Deadline for the Barrens Soccer Club will still be May 31st and the late fee will apply after that date. Refunds will not be issued for players transferring to Travel.

For additional information contact the Travel Coordinator/President, Al Chesnavage.

Try-outs are held in April for the following fall season.  Practice typically starts in July and are held at Fawn Grove and Stewartstown fields.

The Barrens Soccer program has grown so much over the past several years that, although the Barrens Travel Soccer Club is affiliated and has a strong, healthy, cooperative relationship with the Barrens Soccer Club, it is a separate organization run by a different board.

  TRAVEL SOCCER FAQ   Minimize

Q. How good do you have to be to make the travel team?

A. Strong soccer skills are important. However, the most important things are a strong desire to learn to improve your skills along with a genuine love of the game.

Q. How far do you travel?

A. Barrens travel soccer teams play other travel teams from York County such as Red Lion, Mason Dixon, Dover, Eastern, and Dallastown. Half our games are home games played either at Stewartstown or at Fawn Grove.

Q. When does Travel Soccer start?

A. Practice typically start in late July or early August.

Q. Who coaches the travel teams?

A. Volunteers. Usually they are parents who have previous coaching and or playing experience. The travel club is always looking for new coaches and assistant coaches. If you'd like to volunteer, contact any board member soon. Coaches are selected by mid-June.

Q. How much does Barrens Travel Soccer cost?

A. To some extent that depends on the team. You should expect to pay between $100-$150 for your son or daughter to play both the fall and spring seasons. The club offers fund raising opportunities to offset some of these costs.
