CHSC Senior Rec Division Becomes "Friday Night Lights" this Spring!
After a very successful debut season last fall, the Cherry Hill Soccer Club's Senior Recreation soccer program for U-9 and U-10 boys and girls will return in Spring 2008. During this Spring season, the Senior Recreation program will be held on Friday nights under the lights at the club's new state-of-the-art artificial turf field at Upper Chapel Park. The two-hour program will start at 7:00 p.m. and feature paid professional trainers working with all of the players as a group followed by a game under the lights. Rather than divide the players into permanent "teams," the sides will be chosen each evening in the hopes of keeping competitive balance.
According to Mark Pattison, President of the Recreation Division, the goal is to allow players and their families to stay involved with soccer and still have the flexibility to play other sports as well. "A key advantage to having the new turf field is that allows us to give our member families freedom in their schedules. Because we can now play at night, our players are able to stay involved in soccer and still play other sports in the spring. By keeping the senior rec program on one night, our goal is to free up the weekends either for other sports or for family time. We are really excited about the flexibility that this offers to our members."
Mike McCurdy, who coordinated the senior recreation division last fall, was equally excited about the program's return this Spring. "We received tremendous feedback on the program last fall. Everyone from the players to the coaches to the parents enjoyed the professionalism that the trainers brought to the practices. In the spring, we recognize that a multiple night commitment is difficult for many of our members and so we decided that a 'Friday Night Lights' concept would be the best way to maximize participation and to allow our senior rec pla! yers the opportunity to play on the new turf field every week."
