ATLANTA, GA - Just because the World Cup is over doesn’t mean soccer fever is! On Wednesday, July 28th, Blue Sombrero team members Erik Stadler, Kelly Berrall, and Kathryn Morrell made their way into the Georgia Dome along with over 33,000 other soccer fans for the Aaron’s International Soccer Challenge match between Club América (Mexico) and Manchester City (England).

For those of you who have not been to the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia, it hosts sports events of all kinds and can hold up to 75,000 people in its triple-tiered seating, specially designed for the best views. Even from the top section, the view is spectacular:

Vuvuzuelas blaring in the background, the teams made their way onto the field.

Manchester City brought Yaya Touré (Ivory Coast) and Gareth Barry (England) out to play against Club América’s Guillermo (Memo) Ochoa and Enrique Esqueda (both Mexico).

With ten titles, Club América is among the most successful teams in Mexico. One of the richest clubs in the world, Manchester City is currently placed fifth in England’s Premier League.

The two world-class teams took the field:

After a slow start, Manchester City finally caught a break with a penalty called for them in the box.

The game heated up for a while after that, with several attempts from both sides. Eventually, Club América scored, and after that goal the pace slowed again except for a few fantastic runs by Esqueda, ultimately leading to a 1-1 draw - a slightly disappointing result for us at Blue Sombrero.

However, there were some great distractions in our section to make up for it...such as Atlanta’s newest superhero - Tequila Man!
