What is Cache and How Do I Clear It?

Posted by Brock Cline on 07:40

What does it mean when we tell you to clear your cache if you’re having issues with your browser?

Cache is a component that transparently stores data so that future requests for that data can be served faster. Every web browser stores a cache of each website you browse to reduce bandwidth usage and server load when the site is visited again. Over time, the cache can accumulate and bog down your system to the point where some processes won’t work. It is important to clear your cache regularly so your computer works more efficiently.

It’s easy to clear your cache if you are using Google Chrome

1. Select the wrench icon in the top right corner of your browser

2. Select Tools and then Clear Browsing Data

3. Select the items you want to clear and select Clear Browsing Data again

You can also use the following browser-specific shortcuts to clear your cache:
1. Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + F5
2. Internet Explorer: Shift + Ctrl + F5
3. Safari: Apple + R

If you have any trouble clearing your browsing data you can always contact your Blue Sombrero Account Manager for assistance or check out our 24/7 Support Site, which covers clearing your cache in other browsers!
